STU Mechatronics Students Explore Industry 4.0 Manufacturing Technology at Sailun Vietnam Factory

Update 24/06/2025 - 07:10:39 AM (GMT+7)

With the goal of enhancing practical knowledge and providing professional workplace experiences for students, on May 27, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Saigon Technology University (STU) organized a meaningful field trip for third-year Mechatronics students to the Sailun (Vietnam) tire manufacturing plant. The delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Khanh Dien, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

This annual activity is part of the Faculty’s training program, aimed at giving Mechatronics students exposure to advanced manufacturing technologies—especially in the context of the rapidly evolving Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0).

At Sailun Vietnam—a leading tire manufacturing plant equipped with modern technologies—STU students had the opportunity to:

  • Observe the entire production line firsthand: From raw material processing and the complex tire molding process to the strict automated quality control systems. Each stage demonstrated precise and efficient operations.

  • Gain in-depth insights into the integration of automation and robotics: Students witnessed the seamless combination of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and smart control technologies within a continuous production process.

  • Be impressed by Industry 4.0 technologies and the MES system: A highlight of the visit was the Industry 4.0 production line, where the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) is implemented to monitor, manage, and optimize the entire manufacturing process—enhancing productivity and ensuring the highest product quality.

The field trip to major enterprises like Sailun Vietnam was an invaluable opportunity for Mechatronics students to connect classroom theory with real-world industrial practices.
The students were not only able to see and hear but also to experience the professional working environment firsthand—gaining greater motivation for their studies and a clearer orientation for their future careers.

Through this visit, students gained practical knowledge, reinforcing their understanding of automation systems, industrial robotics, and the application of Industry 4.0 technologies in modern manufacturing. These experiences are truly valuable, equipping STU’s future Mechatronics engineers with greater confidence as they enter the workforce.

Saigon Technology University and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the management and staff of Sailun (Vietnam) Tire Manufacturing Plant for their warm hospitality, insightful knowledge sharing, and generous support that made this field trip a successful and enriching experience for our students.

STU remains committed to strengthening industry-academia collaboration, offering students more hands-on learning experiences that closely align with real-world demands.

Although the trip has ended, the knowledge and experiences gained will undoubtedly serve as a solid foundation for students as they embark on their journey to conquer new technological frontiers.
