EDUCATION Ho Chi Minh City names special prize winners of student scientific contest

A group of students from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Science have claimed the special prize of the 2014 Eureka Awards.

At the awards ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday, Nguyen Duy Cuong and Nguyen Thanh Go from the Information Technology Department of the school were awarded the prize for their project to build a system to summarize videos based on 2D image analysis. 

The annual awards, which are in their 16th year, aim to encourage and honor local students’ scientific projects.
They are given away by the Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in collaboration with the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City and the Center of Science and Technology Development.

Eight first prizes, 12 second prizes, fourteen third prizes, and 28 consolation prizes were awarded at the ceremony on the weekend.

The prizes were granted to the best projects cherry-picked from 2,438 entries from 36 universities and colleges in the fields of biotechnology-biomedical sciences, economics, information technology, education, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and others.

The Center of Science and Technology Development also picked some projects for further research and implementation.
