The Visiting Professors Program – Food safety experts Jairo Romero met students

On September 3rd, 2013, on the opening ceramony of the academic year 2013-2014, the Faculty Board and all FFT’s students of STU had the honor to welcome MSc Jairo Romero (Colombian) who is the member of IUFoST to exchange and give the lecture for students.

This is a regular activity of the Visiting Professors Program, which initialized by VAFoST, supported by IUFoST, and the network of well-known food scientists. Many of FFT’s lectures were the members of the VAFoST including Prof.Dr. Luu Dzuan (Dean of Food Technology Faculty), who is also the vice-chairman of VAFoST and the Vietnam representative in the member board of IUFoST. With the intimate relationship to the scientific researches and activities in organizing international conference, FFT is the priority arrival of professors from IUFoST.

Mr. Jairo Romero had more than twenty-five years working in food safety field; he was also a former executive staff of FAO. For now, he is lecturer and consultant on the quality management system, Codex Alimentarius, and the international standards such as GMP, HACCP. He is the author of three books, one chapter, and forty-three articles, and presented at international conferences on over twenty-five countries. Coming to STU, MSc. Jairo Romero shared information to the FFT’s students and lecturers by the seminar “Food Safety Culture”, which introduced a new approach of food safety education to the community and the responsible consuming behaviors.

On the tentative schedule in November 2013, IUFoST is going to recommend two professors to Vietnam. They are two scientists specialized in nutrition from India - Dr. V. Prakash and Dr. Jamuna Prakash. STU will be the first arrival of his travel and this will be the third time that he give the lecture in STU.

Since the program was launched in December 2010, STU’s FFT have connected and coordinated approximated to twenty international professors to train and support students, lecturers, and researchers of STU and other universities such as HUTECH, Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry, Vũng Tàu University, Cần Thơ University, etc.
