Update 28/04/2020 - 01:00:00 AM (GMT+7)

Schools have reopened in nearly 30 localities in Vietnam as of Monday morning as the country recorded no new Covid-19 infection cases for an 11th consecutive day.

After closing for three months for virus prevention, schools in 29 localities which see low risks of a viral outbreak have reopened, mostly to students at  ninth and 12th grades.

In the southern central province of Phu Yen, all schools, especially those previously used as virus quarantine areas were well disinfected before reopening on April 27.

Director of Phu Yen Provincial Department of Education and Training, Pham Van Cuong, said that local students of grades nine and 12 returned to school on Monday morning.

"They were divided into small groups of some 20 for each class for virus prevention following directions from the Ministry of Education and Training," he said. "The syllabus will be reduced to meet the deadline of the school-year."

Earlier some provinces including Thai Binh, Ca Mau, Yen Bai, and Hai Phong had let students return to class from April 20 while taking various measures to ensure safety amid the virus spreading threats.

Director of the Ca Mau Provincial Department of Education and Training, Nguyen Minh Luan, said that they have instructed teachers and students on virus prevention regulations.
"Before reopening schools, we disinfected all the rooms and study equipment," he said. "Students and teachers are required to wear face masks, clean their hands and have their body temperature checked before entering classrooms. Each class only has 20 students who sit at least two metres away from one another."

Following instructions from the ministry, schools are organising two study shifts in the morning and afternoon to avoid large gatherings.

Vietnam reported no new infection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus as of 6 am on April 27, marking the 11th day in a row the country has seen no new Covid-19 cases through community infection, the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control said.

The number of Covid-19 cases in the country remained at 270, with 225 having recovered and no death.
