The British Council in Vietnam launched a competition on Tuesday, titled “UK in My Eyes,” which gives participants a chance to share their own stories and images about the United Kingdom.
The launch is seen as a meaningful beginning to 2013, when Vietnam and the UK mark the 40th year of diplomatic relations and the British Council commemorates its 20th year in Vietnam, the BC said in a news release issued the same day.
Entrants can submit essays, no more than 1,500 words long, videos or slideshows about their experiences in the UK. Entries can be presented in either English or Vietnamese.
To be eligible for the contest that lasts until June 8, candidates must be a Vietnamese UK alumni, a Vietnamese student who is studying in the UK, or a Vietnamese person who once visited the country.
Those who have not been to the UK can cast their vote to select the best entries on the competition’s website http://www.nuocanhtrongmattoi.net/.
Successful entrants will be presented with return air tickets to the UK – which can be exchanged for VND30 million (US$1440) coupons for travel in Southeast Asia – iPad minis, or domestic travel coupons worth VND10 million ($480) each.
This is the second time the BC has organized this contest, with the first edition taking place in 2011.
