U.S. government seeks local candidates for non-degree scholarships

Update 03/10/2012 - 09:50:47 AM (GMT+7)

The United States Embassy in Hanoi and the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City are looking for Vietnamese candidates for up to six scholarships to study in a non-degree program at American universities in the 2013-14 academic year.

First- through third-year undergraduate students with a good command of English, who demonstrate leadership through academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities, are invited to apply for the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program.

Successful candidates will study for one semester (about five months) or one academic year (approximately ten months) in the U.S., with courses starting in August 2013 or January 2014.

A two- to four-week intensive English language course will be available to participants who fail to meet host institutions’ language requirements prior to the start of their academic programs.

Chosen contenders must return to Vietnam upon completion of their courses, and may not stay on for degree learning in the U.S.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Vietnam and will have completed their first year by next August.

Candidates are required to have attained acceptable TOEFL or IELTS scores, and they must also have at least one remaining semester to complete at their universities in Vietnam upon the completion of the program in the U.S.

Applications, including three letters of recommendation, must be submitted to the Embassy and the Consulate General by November 26.

Detailed information on the scholarship program can be obtained at http://vietnam.usembassy.gov/scholarship_opportunities.html or via pas.culture@gmail.com and PhamLTK@state.gov.
