Tertiary schools flout rules to teach students off campus

Update 21/09/2012 - 04:42:55 PM (GMT+7)

Many local junior colleges and universities are going against education regulations by recruiting students for training programs at unauthorized places outside their own campuses.

A school based in the northern province of Bac Ninh, the Bac Ha Junior College of Technology, publicly announced that it is seeking students for courses to be taught at the campus of the Hanoi College of Commerce and Tourism, located in Cau Giay District, Hanoi.

It notes that enrollees can choose to study at another location in the capital’s Tay Ho District as well.

The Hanoi Western College is, similarly, looking for candidates to teach at a facility owned by an occupational center in one of Hanoi’s central business districts, even though its authorized campus is situated in the suburbs.

With only one official campus, in the northern province of Thai Nguyen, the Industrial Economics – Technology College still declares that new enrollees will be signed up at several vocational schools’ campuses in Hanoi.

Applicants for the IT and accounting majors at the Viet Tri University of Industry in the northern province of Phu Tho have also been told that they can take their courses at a vocational school in the capital.

Other schools from the north and central regions are also stepping up their efforts to register students for rented facilities in Ho Chi Minh City.

ASEAN Junior College, located in the northern province of Hung Yen, for instance, has sent admissions officers down south to ‘hunt’ for candidates for a junior college course in medicine at the campuses of Dai Viet Vocational School in the city.

Another school, Pacific Ocean University, based in the central province of Khanh Hoa, has been enrolling for a number of undergraduate programs taught at the campus of a vocational school in the southern hub’s Go Vap District.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Training Bui Van Ga has confirmed to Tuoi Tre newspaper that junior colleges and universities are not allowed to train students in locations other than their own official campuses.

He vows to crack down on the above schools for their violations.
