Vietnam brings home four medals from Int'l Biology Olympiad

Vietnamese students have recently won four medals at an international biology contest held in Indonesia, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).

The MOET said Sunday that Vietnam won one silver medal and three bronzes at the 2014 International Biology Olympiad which took place in Bali from July 5 to 13.

The silver medal went to Le Thi Nguyet Hang, an 11th grader at Le Quy Don Specialized High School located in the central city of Da Nang.

The three bronze medals were awarded to Pham Minh Duc, an 11th grader at Le Hong Phong Specialized High School located in northern Nam Dinh Province, Tran Le Quoc Khanh, a 12th-grade enrollee at Ho Chi Minh City’s Le Hong Phong Specialized High School, and Dao Trong Doanh, a 12th grader at Tran Phu Specialized High School in northern Hai Phong City.

The competition gathered 241 contestants who are students from 65 countries and territories around the world including Japan, Vietnam, the U.S., Switzerland, Thailand, Portugal, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and Singapore.

The International Biology Olympiad, also known as IBO, is a competition for students under the age of 20 that was first launched in the 1960s.

Contestants compete in two exams which focus on skills needed to complete biological problems and experiments.
