Two Vietnamese female students from a Ho Chi Minh City university will compete in the final round of a global energy contest in Paris in June after they beat rivals from eight East Asian countries and territories in the regional round last week.
The Vietnamese team, consisting of Nguyen Thi Thuy Duong and Dang Mai Anh who are both enrolled at Ho Chi Minh City Foreign Trade University, won the regional round of the “Go Green in the City 2014,” organized in the southern city, with their idea “Energy Bank” on Friday.
The idea presents a “Banking” concept applied to energy management to ensure the stability of energy demand and also to encourage the spirit of “The more you save, the better you earn.”
It outperformed other initiatives by contestants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand.
Duong and Anh will have an opportunity to attend internship interviews with Schneider Electric group, the contest’s organizer, and they will also join a series of mentoring sessions and workshops under the guidance of Schneider Electric’s experts following their victory in the regional round.
According to the schedule, the two will continue competing in the final round against 11 other regional winning teams from all over the world in Paris from June 17 to 21.
Held by Schneider Electric since 2009, “Go Green in the City” is a global program aiming to challenge business and engineering students worldwide to develop creative initiatives, intended to promote innovative and intelligent energy consumption.
Participants are required to work in teams of two, with at least one woman in the team, to come up with viable solutions for energy management sectors critical to cities.
