HCMC students allowed to enjoy Tet from January 25

Update 28/11/2013 - 09:23:53 AM (GMT+7)

Ho Chi Minh City school students will have 16 days off, starting January 25, during the upcoming Tet holiday, according to the municipal Department of Education and Training.

School kids are allowed to stay home until the end of February 9, the department said.

City educators are raising funds to provide to their colleagues in suburban areas so that the latter can have a warm Tet this lunar year.

Tet, or the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, is the most important annual festival in Vietnam.

It is seen as an occasion for pilgrimages and family reunions.

During this special festival, Vietnamese visit their relatives and temples, forgetting about their past-year troubles and hoping for a better upcoming year.

Tet falls on January 31, 2014 but Vietnamese celebrate it days before and after that milestone.
