The US non-governmental organisation Pacific Links Foundation (PLF), on July 26 granted scholarships to 650 disadvantaged female students from the Mekong Delta provinces of An Giang, Dong Thap, Kien Giang, and Tien Giang.
The scholarships are part of the US organisation’s An Giang-Dong Thap Alliance for the Prevention of Trafficking (ADAPT) programme.
Each junior secondary school VND1.8 million scholarship and secondary school VND2.2 million scholarship is intended to assist with tuition fees and the purchase of study materials, school uniforms, and medical insurance.
PLF President Vuong Ngoc Diep, said the fund has enjoyed the overseas Vietnamese community’s and businesses’ enthusiastic support. They are eager to help disadvantaged female students at risk of quitting school.
Since 2005, the organisation has granted 4,155 scholarships to 921 female students attending the four provinces’ junior and senior secondary schools.
The PLF also awarded 33 female secondary students with VND1 million each, 11 outstanding students with VND200,000 each, and 46 others with VND100,000 each.
