The copies have a spelling mistake, “Heu Truong” instead of “Hieu Truong” (Rector). Meanwhile, 400 original diplomas do not have the anti-counterfeiting stamp from the Ministry of Education and Training.

Speaking with Dantri/DTiNews, Deputy Rector of the University of Sciences Le Thi Thanh Nhan said, right after detecting the spelling mistake, the university informed students to return in order to receive corrected copies and have their degrees stamped. To date, the university has stamped 275 degrees, while more than 100 others still await a stamp.

She noted that this is the fault of the university, and so the university has sent staff members to the homes of students who live near the campus to re-grant copies and stamps. Meanwhile, students who live far away from the university will be assisted with transport fees.

The university has punished those responsible and expect to have dealt with the problem by July 23, she added.

Mr. Nong Quoc Chinh, Rector of the Thai Nguyen University of Sciences, was cited by VietnamNet as saying that the spelling errors in the copy diplomas was the fault of university’s Department of Student Affairs and the lack of the anti-counterfeit stamps in the original diplomas was because, "students returned home after the graduation ceremony” so the university could not stamp them.
