"Young achiever safe food award" 2018 - YASFA 2018

The “Young achiever safe food award" 2018 - YASFA 2018 was organized by the UBM Exhibition Company in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Food Science and Technology (VAFoST). The Award alo was supported by the Faculty of Food Technology - Saigon Technology University (STU). It is part of a series of activities at Fi Vietnam International Exhibition 2018. This event took place on May 16, 2018, at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC).

By utilizing the local raw materials, safe ingredients, new food products that meet the needs of consumers in developing countries in the ASEAN region and the world is being developed. The competition created opportunities for students of the Food Technology field from universities, colleges, and vocational training schools in Vietnam as well as many countries in Southeast Asia expressing and asserting themselves...

The organizers have received more than 20 ideas of groups from domestic schools and universities and from foreign countries such as Cambodia, Thailand. Products were sent to the Organizing Committee on time. After the preliminary round, the organizer announced the Top 12 products and then the creators of these 12 products will present their ideas to the experts of jury council in the final round held at the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Center (SECC)...

The jury council of the competition is experts on food technology, trusted scientists and lecturers from prestigious universities in Southeast Asia such as:

  • Ms. Silvia Forroova – Brand manager for Food, UBM EMEA
  • Asst. Prof. Pisit Dhamvithee, Faculty of Agro-Industry, Kasetsart University
  • Ms. Chau Nguyen, VAFoST Communication Executive, YASFA Co-founder
  • Mr. Keir Steinke, Former VP for R&D of Unilever

First prize winner

 

The first prize worth $1,000 contest was awarded to the best group of students with the product "Plant-based condensed milk (Condensed milk from plants with stevia)" of Ho Chi Minh City Open University. The Second Prize, sponsored by VAFoST, was awarded to the group with the product "Jelly drink with banana blossom and ginger extract" from Kasetsart University (THAILAND). Besides, Saigon University of Technology (STU) also awarded the third prize to the group whose product is "Passion fruit savory sauce for dressing and marinating" of HUTECH University.

Through the competition, the organizers want to encourage creativity and passion in each contestant. Moreover, this is also the basic fundament for further improvement in the future of students.
